Amanda Bossard, fresh out of Anchorage High School, in 1992 began studying marine biology. Bossard began her commercial seafood career in 1999 when she started working aboard the vessel F/V Sunset. This 65' schooner, which was transformed into an ice-fish tender was operated by Murat Aritan. Aritan has been involved in commercial fishing since 1993. Bossard got married to Aritan in 1999, and the two have joined in fighting for their company. They support conservative and sustainable renewable resource management. Otolith is directly wholesale distribution of seafood that was started by a woman in Philadelphia in 2007, by a woman who is now the mother of two kids, Bella aged 3 and Andre age 1. Bossard in 2007, a mother of two children Bella age 3 and Andre 1 and returning to Philadelphia from her native Canada, launched Otolith as a direct market wholesale seafood distributor. Bossard's daughter Isabella, age 12, and son Andre aged 10 visit each year to Southeast Alaska to work in the deckhand position throughout the salmon wild season. In the course of two months, Bossard and her daughter Isabella utilize hooks and lines to fish for the salmon they want to catch. Aritan will then sell their fish for processing locally.
